“Following surprise surgery with a longer recovery than I appreciated, I feared I would never hike again. Though I was overreacting in my impatience, the feeling of desperation for nature was real. On one of the first days I was allowed out of the house alone — though not yet ready for hiking — I drove to a nearby wayside south of town. I was greeted by the hope of resurrection and hiking in the guise of a divinely yellow butterfly. I was reminded that life is indeed cyclical and my time for hiking amid nature would come soon enough.” — Tim Graves
