Bobbing Birds

To me, raised in mostly urban and suburban landscapes, they looked like those bobbing birds that decorated desks in an earlier decade. I expected them to gently touch their yellow beaks to the ground but, of course, they never did.  They faded into the familiar until that month we had extreme rain in our arid climate. When the bobbing birds were reflected in the massive puddle at the elevator the birds came back to life!
